Martha's Way Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Join us on Friday, May 29, at 10 a.m. for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Martha's Way! The ceremony will take place on the Museum Parkway side of Kettle Pond, next to the James River. Parking will be available via the turf on the James River side of Lions Bridge.
About Martha’s Way
Martha’s Way is a pedestrian trail project designed to improve public safety and accessibility along the James River waterfront.
The first two phases of the project, completed a little over a year ago, included:
- A four-foot-wide walking path along the outside curve of Museum Parkway between Kettle Pond and the Riverside neighborhood
- A short gravel path to improve pedestrian access and safety
Now, with the completion of Phase III, the community can enjoy:
- A new waterfront boardwalk
- Two small scenic overlooks along the James River shoreline
These additions provide visitors with a safer and more sustainable way to experience the waterfront while helping prevent parking and congregation on the riprap directly in front of Kettle Pond. The project both increases community engagement and supports stewardship of the James River shoreline.
We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate this exciting new addition to our Park and the continued effort to create meaningful connections between our community and the water.
